Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old system of natural healing, originating in the Vedic culture of India. Ayurveda means the "science or knowledge of life", (Ayur = life, Veda = science or knowledge). Ayurveda is also the sister science to yoga and is used to achieve health and wellness in the physical, spiritual, socio-emotional, mental, and universal bodies. Utilizing practices such as daily rituals, right diet, various forms of asana, (yoga postures), pranayama, (breathing techniques), and meditation, tailored to your specific dosha, (in Ayurveda it is believed that we all are born with one or more prominent dosha type(s)- vata, pitta, or kapha, making up our dosha prakriti, or ayurvedic constitution), ayurveda seeks to keep the elements of the body, mind, and spirit balanced. When our dosha is not balanced, we experience dis-ease in mind, body, and spirit. This can manifest in the form of something as simple as a rash, an irritated mood, constipation, IBS, or something with more complexity, such as depression, or anxiety.

For those of us that are interested in the why - why we think the way we think and why we are the way we are, and the how - how to heal ourselves from the inside out and how to better prevent illness and dis-ease, learning about and practicing Ayurveda is for you!

Rachel offers Ayurvedic consultations as an accompaniment to a yoga session or as a stand alone session.
